Using Technology to Thrive is a hands-on educational series designed to help adults build confidence, skills, and safety when using everyday technology. Led by UW–Madison Division of Extension Educator Katie Daul, this three-part, in-person program encourages participants to bring their own devices and learn practical skills they can immediately apply in daily life.
Sessions focus on smartphone basics, helpful tools and tips, and how to recognize and avoid frauds and scams. Participants receive guided instruction, time to ask questions, and support tailored to their individual comfort level with technology.
Research shows that improving digital literacy among adults—especially older adults—can increase independence, reduce social isolation, improve access to health and community resources, and enhance overall wellbeing. Education on fraud prevention is also shown to reduce financial risk and increase confidence when navigating online environments. Learning technology skills in a supportive, group-based setting further promotes self-efficacy and lifelong learning.
The series meets on Mondays at 11:00 a.m. at the Gillett Community Center, with individual sessions offered on:
- January 26 – Smart Phone Basics
- February 23 – Tools and Tips
- March 23 – Frauds and Scams
Participants may attend one or all sessions. All sessions are free and open to the community.
