Vegetable Garden Planting Plans Workshop in Coleman

As planting season approaches and starts for vegetable gardens, area gardeners have the opportunity to learn more about techniques which optimize the performance and efficiency of their gardens.  The Coleman Branch of the Marinette County Consolidated Library System and the Marinette County office of UW-Madison, Division of Extension are cooperatively sponsoring this opportunity.

The workshop will be held on Tuesday, April 20th, starting at 10 a.m.  It will be held in the Coleman Baseball Field Pavilion, located at 320 Elm Drive in Coleman.  Participation is limited to 20 individuals, so pre-registration is requested.  You can register by contacting the Coleman library at 920-897-2400 or by e-mailing branch librarian Tina Brand at tbrand@marinettecountylibraries.org

The workshop will focus on how to get the most out of your vegetable garden by planning your planting.  Planting date, spacing, and placement according to the other plants in your garden all really do matter.  Paying attention to these different aspects helps your garden produce more vegetables of higher quality.

Physical timing and spacing are fairly easy to picture, but we will also work through the concepts of companion planting, through which we can maximize the positive interactions between plants and minimize negative interactions.  Agriculture/Horticulture Agent Scott Reuss will lead the discussion and then have time for any other vegetable management questions.
