February 2 at 1:00 pm CST: Animal Care on the Farm and Beyond
Jennifer Van Os, Assistant Professor, and Extension Specialist, will discuss animal welfare: essentials for the cow, the producer, and the consumer”. Aerica Bjurstrom Agriculture Extension Educator will review “The Silver Hour,” from cull cow to market cow.
February 9 at 1:00 pm CST: Preventing Injuries When Working with Cattle
!!!This program will be offered with live Spanish interpretation !!!
The cost of injuries – medical, lost work time, personal suffering- from working with cattle can easily add up from injuries such as broken bones from a stepped-on foot; punctured lungs and broken ribs from the force of a head strike, or health risk from a needle stick. This program will focus on worker safety with topics to include: OSHA employee rights and responsibilities, working safely in different environments, improving safety with chutes, gates, lighting; special considerations for handling down cows, administering vaccinations, and livestock transport.
February 16 at 1:00 pm CST: Getting the Most out of Your Farm’s Data
Victor Cabrera, Professor and Extension Specialist, will discuss the Dairy Brain: making finical “Cents” of your
farms data. We will also look at how your farm can utilize the data it’s already collecting to help you make a profit.
February 23 at 1:00 pm CST: Getting the most out of Your Forages
Discussions by Luiz Ferraretto, Assistant Professor, on the implications of prolonged corn silage storage. Matt
Akins, Assistant Scientist and Extension Dairy Specialist on sorghum forage management, and Kimberly Schmidt on Agricultural Extension Educator on feeding rye and triticale forages.
